Current works

Completion timeframes of current works listed below are subject to weather conditions.

We will make every effort to minimise disruptions to traffic, parking and pedestrians during work times.

To help work run as smoothly as possible, we ask pedestrians and motorists to follow any signage and traffic control measures.

Road works

Long Beach, Cullendulla Drive

Work: Stage 1 involves widening the culvert near the intersection of the Princes Highway. When completed, we will then widen the culvert near the intersection of Kettle Road. This work is mainly off-road, so motorists may experience only minimal disruptions to traffic flow.

Stage 2 involves widening 800m of Cullendulla Drive from the intersections with the Princes Highway and Kettle Road. During this work, one traffic lane will be closed and motorists should allow for extra travel times.

When completed, these road safety improvements along the 800m section of Cullendulla Drive will have two 3.5-metre wide traffic lanes with a 2-metre wide shoulder of both sides.

This project is funded by the Australian government's Bridges Renewal Program ($202,021), the State government's Restart NSW Program ($668,204) and Council's Capital Works Program ($385,400).

Timeframe: 19 April to the end of December 2018, weather permitting.

Tomakin, George Bass Drive & Tomakin Road

Work:  A new roundabout is being constructed at the intersection of George Bass Drive and Tomakin Road.

Temporary Road Closure: The northern section of Sunpatch Parade will be closed from 7am Tuesday 2 October to 4pm Friday 12 October (NSW school holidays). Residents from 2 to 14 Sunpatch Parade will be able to access their properties. Other commuters travelling on Sunpatch Parade will need to use Parks Parade to access Ainslie Parade. The road closure will enable construction of the fourth leg of the new roundabout.

This project will be completed in three stages.  The first stage will involve realigning Tomakin Road.  The second stage involves realigning Sunpatch Parade and constructing the connection to George Bass Drive.  The final stage is the construction of the roundabout.

There will be minimal disruptions to traffic during stages 1 and 2.  During stage 3, traffic control measures will be in place involving off road detours.

This project is made possible by a $3.5 million grant received from the Australian Government's Building our Future Program.

You may view the concept plan on our major projects page.

Timeframe:  Stage 1 commenced 18 June 2018.  Stage 2 will begin in October 2018.  The entire project will be completed within the 2018-19 financial year.

Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve

Work: Realignment of the existing sewer rising main running from the council facility at the northern end of Myamba Parade, Surfside to the pump station at the southern end of Nuyen Place, Long Beach.

The new pipe will be located further inland than the existing sewer main, passing deep beneath Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve and Cullendulla Creek.

Dunstans Construction Group Pty Ltd will be undertaking the works. They will use horizontal directional drilling technology allowing the 1.2km pipeline to be installed without disturbing the reserve surface or the creek bed.

The project has been implemented to address exposure of the existing sewer line on the foreshore caused by ongoing erosion. The old pipe will be removed in February 2019.

Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve will remain open during works.
